Beer in Mossig and Vignoble

Delicious and thirst-quenching, beer is the emblematic drink of Alsace! Alsatian beer, or "Elsassbier", is brewed in Alsace according to a centuries-old tradition. France's leading brewing region, with 60% of the country's production, beer is part of Alsace's heritage and a perfect accompaniment to its gastronomy. Alsace's four major breweries are Kronenbourg, l'Espérance, Licorne and Meteor, all located in the Bas-Rhin department. Alsace is also France's leading hop-growing region, with 415 hectares. Strisselspalt is the traditional hop variety produced in Alsace.

Microbreweries of Alsace

In addition to this industrial production, there is still, or rather again, a production of craft beer within microbreweries and craft breweries scattered throughout the region. Three craft breweries produce on our territory and offer you the chance to taste blond, white, amber, organic beers, and more. Go meet these enthusiasts who keep the brewing tradition alive in Alsace.

The Brewers Tour

Starting from Cosswiller, you can discover the area's three microbreweries on foot, by bike or by car. The Brewers' Tour is 12.14km long, very accessible and mainly on cycle paths.

The Mercière in Cosswiller

Since it was founded in 2013, the brewery has championed an alternative production method that gives priority to quality raw materials, short distribution channels and local partnerships.

La Mercière brewery offers beers that respect our strong values:

  • A quality beer : with organic ingredients and no unnatural additives
  • A beer that respects the environment : short distribution circuits, local suppliers
  • A local beer : direct sales, bistro corner: a place to live and talk at the brewery

The Scharrach in Scharrachbergheim

The Scharrach brewery is a traditional brewery that makes beer from the finest raw materials. It is one of Alsace's three oldest microbreweries.

All Scharrach beers are produced without additives or colourings. All the raw materials come from the region, for example, the cherries come from the Alsatian cherry capital Westhoffen, the quetsches from Odratzheim and other products from nearby markets and local grocery shops.

The Scharrach restaurant specialises in Alsatian menus, including the famous wood-fired flambé tart.

The Narcose in Scharrachbergheim

Founded in 2015, La Narcose organic craft brewery was born out of a meeting between Agathe, whose desire was to create a natural, tasty beer, and Olivier, a keen scuba diver.

La Narcose is an environmentally-friendly brewery: all waste is recycled, bottles are reused, and energy and water are saved. The brewers are keen scuba divers. That's why they decided to name their beer La Narcose, which is a term linked to a natural phenomenon associated with diving due to excess nitrogen: "depth intoxication".

Labelled organic, the beers are brewed using local malts and hops.

Food and beer pairings

Drinking a cold beer in summer is great fun, but in Alsace we also like to eat! So why not pair a beer with a typical Alsatian dish ?

  • The BB, beer and pretzel version. A great classic, a pretzel and a beer for a snack or a picnic with friends....
  • Sauerkraut and beer ? Are you tempted ? We recommend a lager or pilsner, peaty or smoked.
  • Our favourite, tarte flambée and beer. We suggest you try an amber beer or a white beer.

« And as we say at home, s'gilt ! »*

*Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Drink in moderation!
