What if you closed your eyes for a moment? Take a deep breath, what do you smell? Don’t you just love the smell of the Scots pine? Right in the heart of the Vosges forest massif, the tourist resort of Wangenbourg-Engenthal invites you to experience a sensory journey in every way. Strasbourg is only 30 kilometres away. From here, however, you’ll have the impression of experiencing a moment out of time. This is where the Mossig river rises from the Schneeberg, making it the tourist hub of the Mossig and Vignoble region.

From Wasselonne, you’ll pass through the villages of Romanswiller and Cosswiller before taking the D224 through the forest. An exceptional panorama unfolds before your eyes, changing with the seasons. You’ll admire flamboyant landscapes in autumn, snowy ones in winter, and green ones in spring and summer. When you arrive in the village of Freudeneck, nestling in the middle of the forest, you’ve reached the last stop before reaching Wangenbourg-Engenthal.

Standing majestically on its rocky outcrop, cross the medieval pontoon bridge and you’ll be transported straight back in time. From April to September, take advantage of the opening of the keep, which rises to a height of 24 metres, to climb to the very top and contemplate a 360° view of the forest massif.

Another castle lies hidden in the forest just a few kilometres from Wangenbourg castle. Freudeneck Castle, whose ruins hint at an epic history, is currently being restored by local enthusiasts.

The history buff in you is bound to be enchanted by the exhibition in tribute to De Gaulle.
