Want to travel back in time and immerse yourself in the heart of the Middle Ages for a weekend? This year, on September 3rd and 4th, 2022, the medieval festival will be themed around enchantment and fantasy with the theme 'Legendary Creatures.' Trolls, elves, and even dragons will be part of the festivities, and numerous creatures will be lurking in our enchanted forest throughout the weekend. Over the years, the Medieval Festival of Wangenbourg-Engenthal has become one of the major events on the route of the castles in Alsace. The event is eagerly anticipated by all residents of the region.
The event is organized by the Festival and Entertainment Committee of Wangenbourg-Engenthal in partnership with the municipality and the Intercommunal Tourist Office. Village residents, associations, and volunteers, regardless of their talents, participate and mingle with professional companies, making the reception of the public warmer and the event more authentic. Currently, nearly 150 volunteers and about sixty artists are mobilizing to bring a grand medieval spectacle to all visitors.

On the program of festivities
Throughout the weekend, you'll find continuous and fleeting entertainment that you definitely shouldn't miss. The event starts on Saturday with the opening of the medieval village and market, followed by an inaugural performance at 4:30 PM. You can then enjoy music, dances, archery, fire shows, games for both children and adults, a costumed parade, the castle's illumination, and a grand reenactment performance to conclude the event.
Many feasts are offered throughout the weekend: a medieval banquet (by reservation), flambéed tarts from the Count of Wangen, spit-roasted wild boar, grilled dishes, and light refreshments.
At the heart of this site is the impressive remains of a 13th-century castle where artisans and old-time games are gathered. This year's novelty is the enchanted forest filled with huts and mysterious beings that bring it to life. Beware of the mischievous creatures who will be numerous: bandits, witches, and demons won't fail to stand out with their less-than-advantageous appearances !
