With a population of 1,155 and a member of the Coteaux de la Mossig group of communes, Romanswiller in its setting of lush greenery captures the attention of visitors with the bell towers of its two churches reaching proudly upwards towards the high hills around.
Situated at the foot pf the Vosges, the commune is the gateway to the mountain massif with Wangenbourg-Engenthal, Dabo, Artzwiller...
The decline of the forest economy has transformed the village into a residential community leaning on tourism for support with its municipal campsite, country gîtes, four restaurants, a range of different natural habitats and the rich diversity of its flora.
The life of the village and the surrounding area is enriched by some twenty clubs and associations, local shops and a weekly market.
A business park with traditional crafts and industries provides opportunities for balanced economic development. Major projects and associated discussions, in conjunction with the Coteaux de la Mossig group of communes, involve the construction of a village hall for celebrations and events, the provision of various amenities in the village and the future of the military training ground.
The village has two bakers, one of them serving also as a post office, and a butcher.
